I get what you mean anyways
change this
img[l].parentNode.parentNode.insertBefore(nwlnk,img[l].parentNode.nextSibling);
to this
img[l].parentNode.parentNode.insertBefore(nwlnk,img[l].parentNode);

<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- /* 'new thread' button next to reply */
if(location.href.match(/board=(\w+)&(action|thread)=/)) { var img = document.getElementsByTagName('img'); for(l=0; l<img.length; l++) { if(img[l].alt == '[Reply]') { nwlnk=document.createElement('a'); nwlnk.href = '/index.cgi?&board='+RegExp.$1+'&action=post'; nwlnk.appendChild(document.createElement('font')); nwlnk.firstChild.appendChild(document.createTextNode("New Thread")); nwlnk.firstChild.className="button"; img[l].parentNode.parentNode.insertBefore(nwlnk,img[l].parentNode); } } }
//-->

that link goes to a member's only thread. I can see "New Thread" to the left of reply in the open threads.
in fact... do you see "New Thread" to the left of the reply button in this thread?

oh.. wow.. that more complicated because add poll isnt always there. without the "new thread" code, does the other code put "add poll" to the right of "reply"?
