To anchor a thread means that no matter how many replies the topic gets, it will continue to fall when other topics are made/updated. I've seen this on some boards that I post on and I would like that feature for my forum. It's a proboards forum of course. Here's one example of an anchor sign.

not in v4.5. I beliebe v5 has some sort of option to make a thread fall though?

That's what I was talking about when it comes to anchoring a thread. You can post in it but it won't be bumped back to the top. It would be much preferable to locking an entire thread, let people post in it but the thread will die out. So are you saying it's not possible for a code to be made for this feature in v4.5? Right? A forum named Tigerdroppings.com uses this feature a lot. They rarely lock a thread becauese of it. Here look at PBnJ's thread and notice the time stamp of the last post compared to the one above it. That mean's it's anchored and falling but people can still post in it.

yeah the forum software itself is controlling all that though. javascript is only going to be able to manipulate what is on the page already. the best you would be able to do is force a thread to be the last one on the page, but if you tried to do that with ALL of the threads they wouldnt move. it wouldnt be able to bring up older threads from next pages.

So you are saying that a code for an anchor feature on v 4.5 is out of the question.
Man, I wish that more boards would use this feature a lot. It's much better than locking an entire thread.
Thanks for your help.

well they ARE making it afeature in v5... which is what your v4.5 board will become eventually. if its a feature you want really badly, you might consider converting it now so you get a jump on making all the changes

And all the codes that I have put in my footers and headers they would still be there and be the same when my board changes to v5 right?

highly doubtful. most of the codes you currently run rely on the HTML being a certain way. v5 HTML is completely different. I would estimate 90% or higher of your codes wont work.
but there is a possibility that a code you use now you wont need because its a feature built-in. and some v4.5 code have been slowly converted to v5 versions

If you'd like to see your board in V5, I think you're still able to put it in the beta zone. That way you can get a preview of what will happen when you convert and work at getting your customization recreated there.
The sooner the better IMHO as time is marching forward and eventually all boards will be converted.
There are many features of V5 that you will appreciate once you've converted and "Falling" or anchored board is one of them.
