I was wondering if it was possible to make a thread not bump to the top of the forum and not show up as recently posted on the main forum page.

about the only way is to change the natural order of the threads in the board under modifyboard. in the normal "last reply" order, once you post it literally comes from the server in that order and you cant suppress it.
as for the main page, the closest you could get would be to hide the last post info if it was from a certain thread, but it wouldnt be able to show the previous previous thread in that instance
