So writing codes can. at times, seem like a thankless task. Im not saying that people dont appreciate the work at all, but sometimes it can seem.... unbalanced.
I worked really hard on Tournament Bracket and SkinView... and (again Im NOT complaining here), the recognition and gratitude seemed less then a code I wrote to add content above the info center.
It just didnt seem all that balanced.
Or I will work on a code and do 15 revisions of it.. and at the end get "Thanks". now again, at least there was a thanks in there, but I often wonder how many people grab a code without ever thinking twice about what went into it. they might come back by and suggest a upgrade or major revision, but I have seen countless numbers of forums with some of the codes I have written that I never even SEEN that person before, here or PBS. and although I think its great that they use my stuff.. I mean its the point of HAVING the site and all, I got to wondering how many people actually LIKE my stuff?
so here, after all that diabtribe, is my idea. What if I asked for people to send me a post card, from wherever they are, to a post office box in Las Vegas for every code of mine that they use and really like.
or if I write something for a request and it turns out really awesome.. send me a post card. I write something that you have been looking for forever and didnt think could be done.. send me a post card. I fix a problem no one else could seem to find.. send me a post card.
post cards are .. 25 cents I cant find you based off a post card (in case you are concerned) you cant find me based off a PO box (in case I am concerned)
I think its fair right? I have never asked for any money to write anything.. and I couldnt tell you how many hours I have worked on stuff since I started this site. 25 cents.
I can then put the postcards on the wall above my computer where there is currently just a post-it note reminding me I have a dentist appt next friday.
You could put whatever you wanted on the post card.. but hopefully at least your name and what code you liked enough to let me know about...
Anyone think this idea is lame?

i dont understand if you would require us to send a postcard, but if you get something from having stuff on your wall from long or short term members, i respect that. a requirement i think is out of line, but leaving a message somewhere for people to do so if they wanted to is a fun thing and would be very positive to the atmosphere. it could bring even more enjoyment if someone volunteered to send something. add a donate link?

It would be almost the exact same thing as a donate link. totally optional.. I wouldnt require it at all.. but I mean how hard is it to toss a post card in the mail? Im kinda interested to see how many different places I can get.
maybe its just my ego talking out loud, but having a wall full of post cards reminding me everytime I sit down at the computer would possibly mean the difference between actually helping out someone that day.. or watching cartoons.

I liked your Tournament Bracket code i thought its a great idea to do it, i'm thinking on how i could use it . and on your SkinView code i haven't seen it but i'm sure its awesome as well. Your postcard idea seems to be alright to me , why not ask i do think it would be cool to see what country they are in.

Wormo i LOVE your codes. In fact i think you are the best Javascript coder on proboards. Sorry i will be unable to send you postcards as my parents don't really want me to But i would like you to know that you are the reason i got into proboards like i did. You are the only coder left that i feel really has a passion for the codes. All the other coders just make a code when asked and don't really think outside the box. You do....YOUR AWESOME

Why wouldnt your parents let you send a postcard? It isnt like I would be tracking anyone down.. nor COULD I track someone down based off a postcard. I just like the idea of physical objects representing the amount of help...
but ok then..
and Randie.. There mere fact that I get to see my own maniacal bearded face everytime you post seems to warn me that the post card you send will probably turn out to be a picture of me yet again...
but if you VISIT somewhere cool... send me a post card.

I could spam your PMbox with pictures of postcards...or i could email you one...
The thing is they really don't like me on the net...i am into way more than they know and if i started sending a random guy postcards i have no idea what they would do to me...
