The second option. I want a button invisible to all but the users I choose. When clicking the button it will either enable or disable auto merging for that specific user.  |

sorry, I got sidetracked with an RPG code. I will see what I can crank out this weekend. its going to have to involve cookies if its something they can toggle themselves, and if they delete cookies their choice goes with it.

Their choice goes away permanently? Or can I reset it? Also, sorry bout the long delay in response...I am currently homeless...so I don't have as much access anymore. I look forward to your results my friend.

i didnt know you could 'restore' a cookie, the only way i thought that you could get a cookie back would be to go where you got the cookie before to re-obtain it after deleting it.

If there are 3 or more posts in a row by the same user but the code is only merging 2 then a link to a thread where this is demonstrated would help, keep in mind that if additional consecutive posts occur on the next page of a thread the code won't know about them since codes can only see what is on the currently displayed page not what is on the previous or next page.
@wormo: Unless I am missing the toUpperCase method I see two lines that would work only on IE and fail in other browsers

that was literally the first code I ever wrote from scratch. Its probably got all sorts of things that can be updated.
most people probably wouldnt even notice since that line only runs if a guest posts twice in a row
