I looked into making something that a user could just make themselves, but the problem is that the Display name box only allows 30 characters. 12 of those would be taken by the Hex codes characters, plus at bare minimum 8 more. that leaves 10 characters to write your name.. which isnt a lot. I wouldnt be able to store it anywhere else or main page wouldn't have access to the data.
I opted for a script that is admin editable that if someone wants a smeared name, they just have to add 1 line.

Ah i see, thats probably the smart way to do it. I didnt even think of the character limits, but even if you left it in the hands of members you'd get alot of 'omg he has the same colors as me' blah blah.

Yer, that would be a problem... it means a full inbox of PMs of people complaining that they have the same color name as other people. but you could also try using it on a member group instead of a certain user.

interesting concept actually because the member group would be stored in the href for the display name.
You want to code that one up?

the display name is the innerHTML of the anchor link that send you to a members profile. the anchor will have the group number as its class.
THIS is an ample opportunity for you to rise to the challenge!

Hello, dont you think it would be easier to make a button when creating a new thread? instead of having to enter that every time?

you mean for a thread title or for using colorsmear in posts?
the problem I had with the button, was that it would only do what the other buttons did, which was wrap text with the tags. it didnt do anything with color however. you still would need to type in both the start and end colors anyways, so I didnt see it as extra work.
