Browsers tested: IE, FF, and Chrome version: 1.7.0 This plugin allows the members to post under an alternate identity. the admin sets up each identity for the member to use. multiple attributes including, join date, birthday, location, avatar, and even signature. member then will see a drop down next to post submit buttons that they can choose their characters with. data is then stored in keys for when the post is displayed. also, a new tab in the profile view allows to see all the alters associated with that member. You need to make a thread on the support board and ask for your forum to be re-indexed. be sure to include your forum URL.

Hi, I'm using the Alters plugin in my Play-by-post RPG forum. I had a problem a couple of days ago, and all the alters stopped working. I contacted support for reindexing, because I couldn't even create new alters to assign, they told me they were tweaking some things and that the forum should reindex itself when they were done. It did, I could create new alters, assign them, and they worked. But as of this morning, they don't work anymore. I can create them, and I can select the Alter identity when I post, but when the post comes out, it doesn't work and the post goes through as my user's and not my alter's: forja.freeforums.net/thread/8/avatars-alters?page=1&scrollTo=206If I try to edit the post so I can change it to the alter's identity, it doesn't work either. Do you know why could this be happening? Thank you very much.

I'm posting from two different accounts, the admin account and I made a "player" account, so I could test if the alters worked or not for a user that wasn't an admin (because that's my main concern, basically). See we have this thread: forja.freeforums.net/post/225/threadWhere the alters work nicely. The user natahem has this alter named "Ash" and he can post in this OOC thread normally. Now, in our IC Thread, he tried to post as his alter too, but it didn't work, and the same happened for other players in various ocasions (but not always): forja.freeforums.net/post/224/threadAlso, it's really weird because if you look at the forum, it lists the Alter as the poster in both cases:

Its the quote that Alter "Red" put into their message. the code is halting because its looking for info on the quote (who when etc..) but Red just put quotes around some text instead of actually quoting someone. if you changed it to something else like a div tag with padding and text color, it would keep going. I have a function that looks at quotes in case an alter gets quoted it will put the alter info in there instead of the actual member.
that is just a temp fix though. Im looking at writing something to have it ignore "fake" quote boxes. stay tuned.

Thank you very much!
I didn't know that empty quote boxes messed with the code. We were using the Quotes as "dialog boxes" to be able to distinguish between description text and character dialog.

Wasnt your fault at all. I made it a feature a couple of versions ago to make it where when you quoted an Alter post, it would replace all the author stuff with alter stuff. so it would really look like you were quoting the alter instead of the actual member. I never tested an empty quote because I never thought of using them that way. but you showed there was reason. the code was halting because it was lookign for data not present. so I just made a small adjustment to have it move on if the quote wasnt from a person.
so hopefully that fixed all your issues. if that was your rating in the library, could you please re-rate it for me?

In Settings/Characters ... I am having trouble adding alters to the list. I type member name in, then click done...but it doesn't register. Also, when the plugin searches my forum for members, they don't register.

The forum not finding any members means it needs reindexing (as for the first question in the thread). It happened to me too, and it was because they were doing some maintenance to the forums. When they finished and the forum reindexed itself, I could add new alters again and find the members.
