Not having owned a Proboards forum since 2004, I'm a bit out of date with what it can do in regards to search engine optimization (SEO).
Still, things may have changed, and besides a lot of SEO is done offsite.
I'd like to help out any members of this community who need to get higher search engine rankings, with free help and advice.

It wasnt spammy.. I just get used to pulling the trigger when I see SEO as a proboards support mod.

Fair enough, SEO has developed a bad rep over the years.
I was talking to a small business owner yesterday and he thought SEO was a scam - until I went through the process with him.

I think its because of the people DOING it that causes that. PBS gets 2 or 3 posts a DAY where all someone does is make a post with links back to some website and a bunch of keywords in the post. I have had to delete a few even on THIS forum. I dont see the need to advertise a shoe website.
I think its great getting your forum near the top of the results page.. but not at the cost of your site's reputation. I would be intrigued to hear your thoughts on the process.

It's because of SOME of the people doing it - not all.
You're talking about black hat SEO - which is mainly spamming for backlinks, a risky and short term approach.
I'm white hat SEO - which is a long term approach.
White hat SEO is about building a solid reputation through networking with other webmasters, using high quality articles, press releases, guest blogging and - more importantly - delivering value to your market place.
My forum gets close to 50 spam posts a day from black hat SEO campaigns. My blog gets over 200 spam comments a day. It's a royal pain in the ass.
The actual number of black hat SEO campaigns is quiet small in comparison to what the rest of us are doing, although the black hat stuff is currently 'the face' of SEO despite the fact that many of us distance ourselves from it.

When you say nonvisible.. do you mean serving content that only the search engines can read, but not human visitors? You can do that with a < noscript > tag, but I'm not a fan of that kind of stuff because it's a black hat technique. OK, so down to business.. The first thing you'll wanna do is make sure you're getting enough traffic - hundreds of visitors a day sounds like a lot, and it is, for some niches. You wanna make sure you're getting the right number of visitors for your niche. Here's how you do this... The Google keywords tool: adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternalDon't worry, we ain't gonna set up an Adwords account, we're just gonna use it to find out what people are searching for - and then find out how many competing pages there are for those phrases. "celebrity picture forum" currently receives around 1,900 searches a month And has 1,240,000 pages fighting for prime position. "celebrity pictures" receives 165,000 monthly searches And has 7,030,000 competing pages. Now this stuff is only useful if you don't know what keywords (search phrases) you're targeting. If you know what keywords you're going for and are happy with the search volume, don't worry about the stuff above. Right, so onto the actual SEO stuff... You wanna put the keywords inside the < title > tag on your site, and add a meta description tag: < meta name="description" content="your descriptive sentence or two goes here" > all that goes inside the < head > tags. Next, add a < h1 > tag to your main body, somewhere near the top of the page and paste in the content from the title tag. Add a < h2 > tag and paste in the content from your description tag. In the ALT tag (inside your image tags) add your keywords - but only on the first image like your main banner. Now at the bottom of your page, add a < h5 > tag and paste in the content from your title. Add an XML sitemap to the forum, and create a Google webmaster tools account: www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and add your sitemap to it. Once that's all done, leave it for a while - don't do anymore SEO work for a while, in a few months come back to me and we'll do more. The reason for this is; you don't want to freak Google out by over-optimising the site. Slow and steady wins the race.

< head >< title >< meta name="description(does this just stay description?)" content="The Notable Nook is a celebrity high quality picture forum thats updated daily. Paparazzi pics, photoshoots, celeb appearances, movies, etc..." >< title >< head >
< h1 >< meta name="description" content="The Notable Nook is a celebrity high quality picture forum thats updated daily. Paparazzi pics, photoshoots, celeb appearances, movies, etc..." ></ h1 >
< h2 >The Notable Nook is a celebrity high quality picture forum thats updated daily. Paparazzi pics, photoshoots, celeb appearances, movies, etc...</ h2 >
when you mention the img tags and banner im lost, where would they go
< h5 >Celebrity Picture Forum Updated Daily</ h5 >

OK, it's probably easier for me to just make a video or two and show you step by step.
Then others can use the same video. How does that sound?
Gimme a while to make it and upload it to Amazon S3.

Proboards doesnt give access to the Title or Head elements. at least not that I have found. The best anyone is going to get is the very top of the body tag.
as an example, these are the three meta tags I put into my global header:
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow"> <meta name="description" content="Proboards codes by Wormopolis" /> <meta name="keywords" content="Proboards,JavaScript,Wormopolis,free,design" />
but as far as I can tell, the bots overlook them.
