probably more often then I need to, but they are a quick way to store stuff page to page on a site. recently I was enlightened about globalstorage, so some of my codes that held a lot of info (like PM member namedrop down) hav been rewritten to utilize it. its a great upgrade because sites with a lot of members were getting an error from the cookie being too big.
most sites dont use as many cookies as this site does. this site has a bunch of example codes that run so a user can see a live preview of things, so my cookie file IS kinda big. but typically a few codes that use cookies is harmless.
the other problem with cookies is that some people religiously delete their cookies, so all the custom data that was stored goes bye bye. which only really sucks for them because if they had something that kept certain tables hidden, or like on this site, the placement of a certain floating table, it goes back to default.
probably the worst code for having a cookie deleted is my portkey code. it pops up a custom rules message that only shows to someone joining the forum the first time (or if they havent been here in amonth or were recently banned). if someone purges cookies, they have to see it every time. I had to write in an exception list to keep those people happy.
